Input requested for OHCHR study on the right to participate 24/01/2015

The right to directly and indirectly participate in political and public life is important in empowering individuals and groups, and is one of the core elements of human rights-based approaches aimed at eliminating marginalization and discrimination. Stakeholders are now invited to contribute to the study on best practices, experiences and challenges regarding the right to participate to be prepared by the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The European Foundation Centre, EFC has recently published a study on the operating environment for public-benefit foundations in the Western Balkans region. The study, authored by ECNL’s managing director Katerina Hadzi-Miceva Evans and Hanna Surmatz from European Foundations Centre describes the latest developments in and the current legal environment of the foundation sector of the Western Balkans, sets recommendations for further law and policy reform.

ECNL participated in Sixth Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum 15/12/2014

ECNL participated in the Sixth Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, which took place in Batumi, Georgia. The Forum convened 250+ representatives of civil society organizations from Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia on November 19-21. The sixth Forum focused on the issue of common security, protection of fundamental rights and role of mass media in the situation of military conflicts.

ECNL Director highlights importance of civil society & steps to enhance freedoms at OSCE ODIHR HDIM 17/10/2014

ECNL Executive Director, Mrs. Katerina Hadzi-Miceva Evans was invited to deliver an introductory speech at the 2014 Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM), Europe\'s largest annual human rights and democracy conference which is organized every year by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

As an introducer of the 3rd working session on freedom of peaceful assembly and association on 23rd September 2014 she was talking about the importance of civil society, trend of increasing restrictions on civil society on national level all over the word and outlined examples how the enjoyment of the freedoms of association and assembly can be enhanced.

Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index (CSOSI) for 2013 Released 30/09/2014

USAID has recently published the 17th edition of the CSO Sustainability Index for Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The index has been used since 1997 to assess the sustainability of the CSO sector and is now covering over 60 countries in different regions around the world. By using standard indicators and collecting data each year, the CSOSI enables users to track developments and identify trends in the CSO sector over time while allowing for cross-country and cross-region comparison.
